A hand-moulded facing brick with a classic look and feel
Old-Haspengouw is a hand-moulded facing brick from the Classico range of Nelissen Brickworks. The Old-Haspenhouw is made by Nelissen Brickworks from Löss from Limburg, extracted from the plateau of Kesselt in the Meuse valley and revalued with raw materials from the Volcanic Eifel. The facing brick (non-perforated) is sanded on five sides and provided with a possible oblong sloping groove on one flat side (frog, group 1). The structure of the Old-Haspengouw is rough with fine and irregular grooves in the sandy surface. The baking process is done in a gas-fired tunnel kiln under a slightly reducing atmosphere.
The surface of the Old-Haspengouw is reddish. The typical outdated view is obtained by treating the wet, unbaked bricks with various admixtures. The used types of sand create a colour palette that rather varies to dark red with white and black deposits on surfaces with red shades. The design shows a very close resemblance with real recuperated bricks.
