Horta, a grey hand-moulded brick

Horta is a hand-moulded facing brick from the Grigio range of Nelissen Brickworks. The facing brick (non-perforated) is sanded on five sizes. Horta is provided with an oblong sloping groove on one flat side (frog, group 1). This brick is characterized by a rough appearance with fine and irregular grooves in the sandy surface. Horta is made from Löss from Limburg, extracted from the plateau of Kesselt in the Meuse valley and revalued with raw materials from the Volcanic Eifel.

The baking process is done in a gas-fired tunnel kiln under a slightly reducing atmosphere. By the homogeneous mixture of a precise percentage of manganese dioxide with loam, Nelissen Brickworks obtains a light-grey stone. The colour shades show a pastel-coloured nuance from grey to beige, interspersed with yellow, red-brown and black nuances.
