A fiery hand-moulded facing brick
Wijnegem is a hand-moulded facing brick from the Passion range of Nelissen Brickworks. The facing brick (non-perforated) is sanded on five sizes. One flat side of the Wijnegem is provided with a possible oblong sloping groove (frog, group 1). This brick is characterized by a rough appearance with fine and irregular grooves in the sandy surface.
The surface of the brick is salmon-pink. The colour shades vary from beige-pink to brown-red and are obtained by mixing the typical Löss clay from Kesselt with fine sand and this in a specific proportion.
The Wijnegem is made from from Löss from Limburg, extracted from the plateau of Kesselt in the Meuse valley and revalued with raw materials from the Volcanic Eifel. The baking process is done in a gas-fired tunnel kiln under a slightly reducing atmosphere.
