Beguina

The dark hand-moulded brick

Beguina is a hand-moulded brick from the Nuance range of Nelissen Brickworks. The facing brick (non-perforated) is sanded on five sizes. One flat side of the Beguina is provided with a possible oblong sloping groove (frog, group 1). The brick is characterized by a rough appearance with fine and irregular grooves in the sandy surface. The surface of the facing brick is pink. The colour shades show a pastel-coloured nuance going from orange-red to brown-red, interspersed with beige and grey-black nuances. All this in a certain proportion.

The Beguina is manufactured from Löss from Limburg, extracted from the plateau of Kesselt in the Meuse valley and revalued with raw materials from the Volcanic Eifel. The baking process is done in a gas-fired tunnel kiln under a slightly reducing atmosphere.
